One of the earliest venture capital firms to come to Orange County, founder Tom Gephart started his career at Hughes Aircraft as an engineer, today he's raising his 6th fund for Ventana Capital. It's a world wide fund; he raised his first fund in Finland, Norway, Sweden and Denmark. The opportunities are everywhere, Ventana brags of global access to key resources. He complains of the regulatory obstacles US companies face that foreign companies do not; read his America's Genius in Jeapordy. "Build something that fits into someone else's roadmap," it's been a factor in his success. Involved in restoring classic cars and using them as a showcase for charity fund raising, Tom's involved in the community. Partner Matt Lawson chimes in with a few comments during the interview.
