Two young guys with a taste for politics, that's what started things for Fantasy Congress. Andrew Lee and Arjun Lall teamed to design and build a site, like Fantasy Football, for Congressional fanatics. It's early, very early for Fantasy Congress, but they've attracted lots of national attention and a presidential election is coming.

What's up after graduation this month? They're headed to Washington, where else?

The Angel Capital Association, at its Annual Summit in Chicago today, has named Luis Villalobos, founder of one of the largest angel investor groups in the country and a founding member of the ACA, as the recipient of the 2007 Hans Severiens Award. The award recognizes individual accomplishments in the advancement of angel investing.

He's a cancer specialist and molecular biologist turned angel investor. Years ago he worked in Berlin at Schering AG to build up their cancer program in Europe, Asia and the US. While there he began genomics research to identify novel genes that cause cancer, validating and then patenting them.

Today he's a member of the Pasadena Angels and the Tech Coast Angels. He's the angel expert on the life sciences and medical devices.

Gary's the President and CEO of OCTANe and the Executive Director of the OCTANe Foundation for Innovation. OCTANE has a huge charter to influence development in Orange County; he has a dream-team board to assist him. He's the 2007 AeA High Impact Person of the Year, too.

From its beginnings as a master planned community surrounding UC Irvine, the city continues to prosper. Do we locals take Irvine for granted? You wouldn't if you grew up in Buffalo, NY, as Beth Krom did. Irvine has the first green building ordinance in Orange County, the first curb-side recycling program; it's building the Great Park, too.
