Bill Collins starts a new fund

Show #135 Listen (38:00) Download

What are the challenges to starting your own venture capital fund? What's "partner risk" and can Bill Collins assure his limited partners that he'll overcome this and many other hurdles as he kicks off Starboard Ventures. Starboard will target seed to early stage companies focusing on software, new media, hardware and new materials. How did he accumulate the wealth to become an angel investor? Working Sales for Intel certainly helped.

Today he's interested in software; back in 2005 he assisted Vigilistics take their startup through the Tech Coast Angels process. And what a process it was! Series A or convertible note and other issues caused the negotiations to bog down. Since then TCA has created a standard term sheet to avoid similar funding bottlenecks.
