at Pepperdine in Irvine

John Buckingham's Marketing class at Pepperdine University in Irvine
Al Gore had to start somewhere... I started at Pepperdine University last night, in John Buckingham's Marketing class.

Are they smiling only because I stopped speaking? No, it's a new presentation, my first since reading Garr Reynolds' PresentationZen, and it went over well. I may never receive the Nobel, but I'm convinced of the merits of Reynolds' PowerPoint guidelines. Last night's presentation has NO BULLETS, but it does have lots of quirky photos with captions that support my narrative. The title? SPECTACULAR DISASTERS and other INVESTMENTS I've made. Wanna see the original?

My students LOVED you!!

Thanks so much for presenting such an informative and inspiring chat! Personal and professional... all the stuff that students love to hear about successful people. And the mistakes we make along the way! You were great and I appreciate your time and effort immensely!

Thank you so much for taking the time to talk to us tonight!

Your story is so inspiring and I can't wait to hear what the next chapter brings you. Hopefully I am writing a story that will one day be as interesting to hear.

I like quotes and to misquote Churchill (talking about the Prime Minister - Clement Atlee) "I am very modest about my achievements and I have a lot to be modest about!"

The other quote which I think this presentation highlights is from your General Patton "Success is how high you bounce from your last failure" That to me sums up the world of angel investing.

Angel investing is a great thing to be doing but it is very risky - and lots of things are bound to go wrong. Presenting to angels the failures we experience can be a great way of motivating them.

Frank - can you make the PPTs available? (Especially if you have the bad old version, LOL) Seriously - the PresZen approach is great, if a bit discombobulating at first.

I have to get you to MY class... ever get to Idaho? LOL

Nice blog!

Frank replies: Idaho, eh? Funny you should ask...

I just want to let you know that your presentation to our class on Monday was one of the best presentations I have ever seen. It was a very different approach to the presentation and I really liked the way that it was done. Additionally the stories you told were very relevant to my current path. I will see you on Nov 19th for the tech coast angels meeting.
